When a tree gets removed, you’re often left with the stump still in the ground. If you leave it as it is, then you’re left with an ugly thing in your backyard. As such, we need to get rid of the stump once and for all.
How is this done? In truth, there are different tree stump removal methods. We tend to use one specific method, but we’ll run through the three most common ones just to let you see how they differ.
Digging up the stump
Some tree stumps can be removed by digging around them and lifting them out of the ground. This gets rid of the stump and roots, but you’re left with a hole in the ground. Obviously, this can be filled up, but it leaves your landscape looking a little bit uneven.
Plus, this only really works for small stumps. Larger ones can’t be dug up because the roots go too deep, so you have to try one of the other methods.
Using a stump killer
When a tree is removed, the stump will naturally start to decay. In an ideal world, this would be a fast process. However, it takes absolutely ages. So, another way of removing the stump is by using a stump killer. This works like a weed killer, but for stumps!
You apply it to a freshly cut stump, and it speeds up the decaying process. Well, we say ‘speeds up’ – it will take at least 6 weeks for the stump killer to work and completely decay the stump. So, if you want to get your stump removed quickly, then this isn’t ideal for you.
Stump grinding
Now, this is the technique that we use when removing tree stumps. It’s a simple idea; we use a special tool that grinds down the stump all the way to the roots. It can be used on stumps of all sizes, and you don’t have to use any chemicals or dig up the ground.
Stump grinding basically files down a tree stump, leaving the roots below the surface. Here, the roots will naturally die out, and your stump is gone without any holes in your garden. If the tree has been cut very close to the stump, then this process will only take a few minutes. Often, it’s a good idea to get this as part of a tree removal service. That way, you can get the entire tree and stump removed in one go.
Stump removal is sometimes necessary as tree stumps can be home to different diseases or plant viruses. Not only that, but ants and bugs tend to turn them into little kingdoms as well. To avoid all this, you should have them completely removed. The three methods listed above will all get rid of stumps, but we believe that stump grinding is the most effective of all three. It doesn’t matter how big or wide the stump is, and you get the job done right there and then.
